2015 CFCC Athletic Banquet

Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College hosted its Twelfth Annual Sea Devil Athletic Banquet on Thursday, April 30th in Windell ​Daniels Hall, located on the top floor of the Union Station building. The men's basketball, men's golf, men's soccer, women’s basketball, women's soccer, women's volleyball and the cheerleading teams were all honored at the event.

Men's basketball celebrated their successful 2014-15 season with another trip to the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.  Anthony Vanhook garnered Region 10 Player of the Year and was also voted to the NJCAA National All-Tournament Team and earned NJCAA 2nd Team All-American.  Various team awards were also handed out including TJ Evans receiving Freshman of the Year, and Cordea Wilson was awarded the Coach's Award. Anthony Vanhook took home the final piece of hardware as he was voted the Most Valuable Player. This year's Sea Devils finished the season with a 24-9 record, winning both the Region 10 regular season and tournament championships.  It was the second consecutive season Cape Fear earned a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Chase Brown and Drew Baker earned Region 10 honors after leading the men's golf team to their
8th Region 10 Championship.  Brown’s stellar post season play landed him Region 10 Player of the Year while Bakers strong play earned him an All-Region selection.  Brown was named the team's Most Valuable Player while Anthony Gammon took home the Coach's Award. Neville Burton earned Freshman of the Year honors.

Men's soccer showcased three all-region performers this season. Miles Stickland was named to the 1st team, while Mamadou Kelleh netted 2nd team honors.  Dakota Moore was named to the honorable mention All-Region team. Sophomore Dakota Moore was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player and Myles Strickland earned the Coach's Award. The Freshman of the Year recipient was given to Stephen Warren. The men's soccer team ended the season with a 9-9-2 overall record and a conference record of 5-8-2.

The Lady Sea Devil basketball team gave the fans a lot to cheer about this season, reaching #12 in the NJCAA DII National Poll.  Eboni Gilliam and Kristina Rumplasch both garnered 1st team All-Region accolades.  Victoria Florence took home the Most Valuable Player and Jasmine Brown earned Freshman of the Year honors.  Alexius Hampton rounded out the team awards earning the Coaches Award.  The Lady Sea Devils completed 2014-15 campaign with a 26-6 record.  They proved dominant inside Region 10 play, finishing 16-3 in conference action.   

The women’s soccer has been a force to reckon with since its inception in 2006 and this season was no different.  The women’s soccer team boasted six players on this year's All-Region team including four to the 1st team, Armani Boswell, Sarah Clinard, Nicole Tiller, and Megan Fouty.  Larissa Bonilla was named to the 2nd team and Karlie Yeomans netted Honorable Mention. Armani Boswell earned this year's Coach's Award and Larissa Bonilla received Freshman of the Year. This year's Most Valuable Player was Nicole Tiller.  With a 14-4-1 overall and 9-2-1 conference record, the Lady Sea Devils continued their winning tradition yet another season.

Winning 69% of their conference matches, the Lady Sea Devils had reason to celebrate.   Brittani Jefferson and Lydia Smith were named to the All-Region team 1st team.  Megan Thomas also took home All-Region honors as the sophomore setter was named to the honorable mention team.  This trio also swept the team awards as Most Valuable Player was taken home by Jefferson and the Coach's Award went to Thomas. The Freshman of the Year award was collected by Smith.  The ladies finished with an overall record of 19-10 and a conference record of 11-5.  For the first time in school history, the Lady Sea Devils inked their spot at #17 in the NJCAA DII National Poll.

The cheerleading team once again provided CFCC fans with a great season. Their countless hours spent practicing was put on full display at each home basketball game.  This season's Coach's Award went to Jabyby Ocampo, while Anthony Floyd was named Freshman of the Year. Jordan Vasquez took home the Most Valuable Player Award.

In addition to the student-athlete awards, Men's Basketball Head Coach Ryan Mantlo took home his 2ndstraight District 10 Coach of the Year award.  Men’s Golf Head Coach Rick Stewart claimed his 8th Region 10 Coach of the Year award and Melissa Anderson captured her first Coach of the Year for women's soccer.​

The annual “Sea Devil Award”, which was implemented to thank an individual that goes above and beyond the call of duty within the Athletic Department, is given to a dedicated fan, friend and sponsor of the CFCC athletic program. Dr. Amanda Lee was honored with the 2014-15 “Sea Devil Award” for countless working hours, supporting the academic program and providing support of Sea Devil Athletics.
