Sea Devils Win Wake Tech Classic

Sea Devils Win Wake Tech Classic

Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils look to add to their perfect start of the season Tuesday night as they travel to Raleigh for a tilt with Wake Tech.

The Sea Devils are 2-0 after season-opening wins over Richard Bland College and Wythville Community College.  Cape Fear hit the century mark in both wins.

Friday evening, Cape Fear opened the 2012-13 campaign with a 108-82 win over Richard Bland.  All-Region selection Faronte Drakeford led the Sea Devils with 25 points.  Tony Menton added 15, Parris Manning scored 13 and Phil Wallace and Dantae Carson chipped in 11 points apiece for the Sea Devils.

Coach Ryan Mantlo was pleased with the results.  "It's always nice to shake the nerves of the first game.  I felt we came out timid, but really responded in the second half."

The Sea Devils followed that win with a 116-72 victory over Wythville CC Saturday afternoon.  Freshman Parris Manning buried five three-pointers to lead the offense with 27 points.  The Sea Devils connected on 10 threes in the game.

Drakeford and Menton both went over the 20-point mark with 23 and 21 points respectively.  Kyle Keck and JT Murphy rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 each.

"It was great to see our energy against Wythville," said Mantlo.  "The guys really bought into what we needed to do, and it showed on the scoreboard.  It is a great start to the season and we can celebrate this for the next 24 hours, then we have to move and prepare for Wake Tech Tuesday."

After the Wake Tech contest, Cape Fear is headed for the Aiken Tech Classic Friday and Saturday.
