Sea Devils Second Half Preview

The Cape Fear Community College basketball team is hoping to build upon a 12-4 start heading into 2013.

The Sea Devils closed out their 2012 schedule by taking two of three at the Brunswick Classic.  Cape Fear beat Harford CC 76-72.  The Sea Devils pulled away from Caldwell CC 70-54.  And Cape Fear fell to undefeated and nationally ranked Palm Beach State 82-60.

Faronte Drakeford led the Sea Devils in the victory over Harford.  Drakeford poured in 25 points with 9 rebounds.  JT Murphy added 16 points and 11 boards, while Tony Menton scored 10.

The next night against Caldwell, the Sea Devils pulled away from a 25-25 halftime tie and rode a big 2nd half.  Cape Fear outscored its opponents 45-29 to notch its 12th win.  Freshman Anthony Williams led the Sea Devils with an 18-point 9 rebound performance.

On the season, Drakeford leads the Sea Devils in scoring at 21 points per contest.  Drakeford is hitting 58 percent from the floor.  Williams is 2nd on the team in scoring at 11 points and 8 rebounds per game.  JT Murphy and Tony Murphy are also in double figures averaging 10 points per game.

As a team, Cape Fear is scoring at an 82 point per game clip.  Defensively, the Sea Devils are giving up 68 points per contest.

Terrance Hampton is Cape Fear's top 3-point shooter.  He has buried 22 3-point bombs and is shooting 38 percent from the arc.

The Sea Devils open play in 2013 January 5 against Rockingham CC at the Schwartz Center.  The Sea Devils beat Rockingham 82-77 earlier in the season.
