Sea Devils Clinch #2 Seed

Spartanburg, SC - With an 83-79 win at Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday afternoon, the Cape Fear Community College  men's basketball team won its third straight game to close out the regular season and clinched a No. 2 seed in the upcoming Region 10 Tournament.

"I think our guys have really bought into the system," said CFCC Coach Ryan Mantlo.  "They have started trusting each other's abilities and understanding the importance of each possession.  The tournament should be a great challenge and we will look too having a good few days of practice heading into it."

Anthony Vanhook dumped in 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead three Sea Devils in double figures, including Osandai Vaughn with 17 and Demetrus Abrams finished with 11 points.  Vanhook's 33 points helped the freshman shatter the CFCC single season scoring record, previously held by Tavares Speaks.  In 2011, Speaks went on to win Region 10 player of the year, earned first team NJCAA All-American, and later took his Liberty Flames team to the NCAA National Tournament.  Speaks is currently playing professionally in Germany.  "It's an honor to own such a record," said Vanhook.  "I had no idea I was even close, all we are focused on as a team is getting back to Hutch."

Cape Fear finishes the season at 17-13 overall and 6-4 in conference as the Sea Devils 0pen the Region 10 tournament Friday at 7 p.m. at Brunswick Community College in Supply, NC.
