Sea Devils Serving Local Community

Wilmington, NC - While the Cape Fear Community College men's basketball team enjoyed a two-week hiatus away from court to celebrate the holidays, one of Coach Ryan Mantlo's goals during the break was to get in the community to not only get the public familiar with their student-athletes, but also to help those in need.

For an afternoon Mantlo and members of his program spent time talking and serving some of the areas less fortunate at the Good Shepard Center.

"It was great to see these young me out serving the community," said Mantlo. "One of our main priorities is not only to win games, but to help give our kids a better understanding at what it means to be a contributor in the community they live."

The team helped prepare food from cutting fruit and salads, to cooking the main dish and serving the meal. They also were able to enjoy quality time with those served during dinner.

"It's easy to get caught up in life and not take a step back and serve people," said Mantlo. "Today, we did that and had a wonderful time doing so."

At 10-5 overall and winners of five straight, Cape Fear returns to the floor for a few more days of practice before traveling to Richard Bland College on Wednesday Jan. 7.
