Charlotte, N.C. -- Charlotte 49ers head men's basketball coach Mark Price announces the addition of junior college All-American Cape Fear Community College's Anthony Vanhook, a 6-foot-4 forward from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the 49ers.

"I am excited to add another talented player in Anthony Vanhook to the 49ers basketball program," Price said. "Anthony has a successful two-year at Cape Fear Community College culminating in earning All-American honors this past season. The word that comes to mind when you think of Anthony is production. He is a very productive player who can score and rebound the basketball. He adds another piece to the puzzle."

This past season, Vanhook earned second-team All-American honors after averaging 21.7 points and 11.2 rebound per game. Vanhook played a major role in helping Cape Fear capture the Region X title and reach the second round of the NJCAA national tournament. He scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Cape Fear's second round NJCAA Tournament game against Northwest College, March 18. He was also named to the All-Tournament team at the NJCAA National Tournament. He was named Player of the Year for the Carolinas Junior College Conference Region 10.

As a freshman in 2014, he was named first-team all-conference and the conference's newcomer of the year. He averaged 22.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game that season.

"Anthony is a heck of a player," Cape Fear coach Ryan Mantlo said. "He has been incredible to coach for the last two years. He is a tough hard nose player that gets it done. He is able to score inside as well as stretching the defense with his outside shooting. He also is a very strong rebounder. The 49ers are getting a really good player who is an even better person."

As a senior at Chapel Hill High School in 2013, Vanhook averaged 13 points per game on a team that won 24 games that season. In July 2013, he scored 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting in the East-West All-Star game.

"I am excited to sign with Charlotte which is a great school," Vanhook said. "I really like Coach Price and the rest of the coaching staff. It feels good to move to the next level. I am really excited and I can't wait to get to Charlotte and to get to work."
