Marianna, FL - No. 18 Cape Fear Community College faced its first road test of the 2015-16 season over the weekend as the Sea Devils came up short against nationally ranked Northwest Florida State and Chipola College.

In the Milton Johnson Classic opener, No. 3 Northwest Florida defeated Cape Fear 68-64 on Friday. Tyrek Coger hit for 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Josh Lindsey drained six trifectas for 18 points.

"You hate to let this one slip away," said CFCC Coach Ryan Mantlo. "This will give us some great film and insight on what it's going to take to win a national title."

Trailing 30-27 at the half, the Sea Devils led for most of the second period and held a four point advantage with 1:40 remaining, but Northwest Florida took advantage of a pair of missed opportunities down the stretch to grab the victory. Matt Lindsey was unable to convert a three pointer with score 66-64 and .4 seconds left.

On Saturday, despite a team-high 26 points by Calvin Davis, Chipola College handed Cape Fear a 90-84 setback.  Alonzo Tyson and Mike Chamber each finished in double digits for the Sea Devils, who fell to 2-2 on the year.

"We must continue to get better and control what we can control," Mantlo said. "The skies the limit if we can buy into the little things that it takes to win a title."

The Sea Devils return to the floor at the Schwartz Center for the Cape Fear Classic on Friday, November 13. Tip-off against Moravian Prep is scheduled for 7 p.m.
