Men's Basketball Falls to Chipola College

Rome, GA - Cape Fear men's basketball lost the opening game of the Georgia Highlands Classic to #11 ranked Chipola College, 76-59, on Friday.

Cape Fear entered the game at 1-0 after defeating Wake Tech Community College on the road. Meanwhile, the Indians of Chipola came in at 2-0 after winning both games in the Milton Johnson Classic.

The Sea Devils trailed by eight at halftime, but Chipola outscored them 43-34 in the second half to extend their lead and pull away for the win.

Sea Devils sophomore forward Zaqwaun Matthews and Indians sophomore forward Shamarkus Kennedy each scored 14 points to lead all scorers. Cape Fear also got 13 points and seven rebounds out of freshman guard Donte Tatum, along with 12 points and three rebounds out of sophomore guard Shaft Parker.

Cape Fear actually shot better from the field than Chipola (40 percent versus 37.9), but the Indians got to the foul line more often. Chipola shot 24-for-32 from the line, while Cape Fear shot just 10-for-17. Chipola also outrebounded the Sea Devils 44-33.

The Sea Devils fall to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
