Men's Basketball Battle on the Road

Petersburg, VA - Cape Fear men's basketball lost on the road to Richard Bland College, 86-72.

The Sea Devils entered the game at 2-1 after defeating Georgia Highlands on Saturday. The Statesmen entered undefeated.

Cape Fear got behind in the first half, and trailed 49-37 at halftime. They fought back in the second, but weren't able to complete the comeback.

"We battled tough against a really good team on the road. It's a game of runs and unfortunately ours was too late," said assistant coach Mark Lane.

The Sea Devils were led by freshman Donte Tatum, who finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists off the bench, while sophomore Shaft Parker had 15 points, and made 2-for-3 from the 3-point line. Sophomore Alston Davis, meanwhile, scored 12 points and knocked down three 3-pointers.

The Statesmen were led by 31 points from Robert Smith, along with 17 points, six assists, and five steals from Tim Bing Jr.

Cape Fear shot 36.8 percent from the field, while Richard Bland shot 50 percent.

"We can't hang our heads because we have a quick turnaround," said Lane. "We have to learn from our mistakes and apply what we learned on Friday."

The Sea Devils fall to 2-2 on the season.

They return to the court this Friday, where they will take on Gordon State College in the first game of the South Georgia Tech Classic.
