Men's Basketball Loses Close Game to Monroe College

New Rochelle, NY - Cape Fear men's basketball lost a close game to Monroe College, 65-61.

Sophomore guard Kwe Parker led the team with 18 points from the bench, but shot just 5-for-16 from the field.

The Sea Devils led by one at halftime. They initially trailed to start the game, but managed to tie it at 12-12 at the midway point of the first half. The score remained close into halftime.

Cape Fear opened the second half with an 8-0 run to push their lead to 35-26. The Mustangs slowly chipped away over the next five minutes, eventually taking a 42-39 lead. The teams battled back and forth for the rest of the half, and the Sea Devils even lead with around three and a half minutes remaining. However, Monroe retook the lead soon after, and managed to hold on for the win.

"They did a great job of taking us out of our stuff tonight," said head coach Ryan Mantlo. "You have to give them a lot of credit; however, we must be more disciplined in the future."

Along with Parker, the Sea Devils got a solid performance out of sophomore guard Jerick Haynes, who finished with 13 points, seven steals, six rebounds, and three assists.

Cape Fear falls to 4-5 on the season. They will wrap up the Monroe College Classic with a 1:00 p.m. game against Harford Community College on Saturday.
