Men's Basketball Edges Harcum College

New Rochelle, NY - Cape Fear men's basketball defeated Harcum College 78-71 on Thursday.

Despite the final scoreline, the Sea Devils struggled in the first half. Midway through the first, they trailed Harcum 21-7, finding shots difficult to come by. Harcum maintained a double digit lead for most of the first half, and the two teams entered halftime with Cape Fear trailing 44-32.

Cape Fear would continue to trail for much of the second half, and remained down by double digits with under 10 minutes remaining. But the Sea Devils didn't quit, and instead went on a 16-4 run to take a 68-66 lead with 3:12 remaining in the game. From then on, Cape Fear wouldn't trail again and hung on to win by seven.

"I thought we showed true resolve today," said head coach Ryan Mantlo. "We could have easily got blown out, however, we continued to fight. I am very proud of that, however, we must continue to push towards playing a full game and not taking time off."

Donte Tatum led the team with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Both Quate McKinzie and Trayvon Ferrell finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Demetric Horton added 10 points.

Cape Fear shot just 36.1 percent for the game, but held Harcum to just 32.8 percent. The Sea Devils also out-rebounded Harcum 54-48.

The Sea Devils improve to 6-1 on the season. They return to action on Friday where they take on Monroe College, who is hosting the Monroe College Invitational. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
