Sea Devils In Striking Distance After Day 2

Burlington, Iowa - After advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament for the seventh time in ten seasons, the Cape Fear Community College men's golf team sits in 17th on the leaderboard after two days of action at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

Five Sea Devils are competing at the event alongside 22 teams and Cape Fear rebounded after shooting a combined 326 on day one to post a 312 on Wednesday.

Matt Elliott led the way for CFCC in round two and finished with a birdie on the 18th for a 75 on the scorecard. Elliott was six shots better than his opening round and two-over at the turn. He rallied on 18 after back-to-back bogeys to finish the day with a three-over-par performance and a combined 156.

Tanner Pearson and Zach Joines each closed out at 77, while Jace Durham and Broc Howerton hit an 83 and 86, respectively.

Joines is tied for 29th on the individual leaderboard as the highest placing Sea Devil with a 155.  Joines was one shot better than Tuesday with a 78 and 77.

Cape Fear captured the Region 10 Tournament Championship with a 31 shot victory in April.
