Sea Devils Finish Nationals 14th

Burlington, Iowa - The Cape Fear Community College men's golf team saved their best for last Friday afternoon as the Sea Devils used four strong performances to finish 14th out of the 22 teams competing from across the country at this year's National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament.

After posting a 317 on Thursday, Zach Joines, Tanner Pearson, Matt Elliott and Jace Durham shaved 15 shots off their previous round to move up three spots on the overall team leaderboard at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

With the players starting on the back-nine for the final day over the event, Pearson shot a one-under 35 on the back nine to finish the round with a plus-one.

Pearson sandwiched a bogey in between birdies on holes one and five after shooting two over on the back nine.

A strong outing by  Durham also played a huge role in the Sea Devils move up the final standings with 76, seven strokes better than round three and his tournament low for the week, while Joines and Elliott stayed consistent throughout the four day tournament with a plus-four and plus-five to close out the final round. 

Joines and Pearson both finished in a tie for the 30th among the 120 individual players and Elliott finish tied for 31st.

Elliott rounded out the scoring with a 77 after bogeying the final four holes of the event.

Broc Howerton also finished his season with an 84.
