Sea Devils Claim Region 10 Golf Championship

Alexander City, AL – For the eighth time in eleven seasons the Cape Fear Community College men's golf team has captured the Region 10 Tournament Championship.  The Sea Devils entered the final day with a commanding 21 shot lead over Spartanburg Methodist College, however three players became sick narrowing the final victory.

"Our kids showed heart in that final round" said Sea Devil head coach Rick Stewart.  "We had three kids vomiting on the course because of food poisoning but we were able to scramble around to claim the championship."  After posting a 307 in round two, Cape Fear carded a 331 on the final day.  The Sea Devils finished with a final score of 953, seven strokes ahead of SMC.

Freshman Chase Brown led the charge for the Sea Devils as he fired a 230, earning Region 10 Player of the Year honors.  Fellow teammate Drew Baker joined Brown on the five member All Region team, finishing the tournament at 236.  The tournament championship win advances the Sea Devils to the NJCAA National Tournament at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas on May 12-14.

"I am proud of the progression we have made through the season, said Stewart.  We are young but now we will refocus our attention on the National Tournament and bringing Cape Fear home a National Title."
