Sea Devils Finish in 17th Place at Nationals

Newton, Kansas - After advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division One Championships for the eighth time in 12 seasons, the Cape Fear Community College men's golf team placed 17th in the four-day, 19-team tournament held at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas.

Drew Baker paced the Sea Devils with his consistent play to finish tied for 51st place on the par 72, 7,359 yard layout. Baker fired a pair of 75's and a five-over-par 77 on the final day of the event. He shot no worse than 80 for the tournament, while Neville Burton and Anthony Gammon carded a pair of third-round 74's for low score among the five Cape Fear golfers.

Baker, Burton and Nicklaus Beecroft combined to make eight birdies during the final round as Beecroft hit three-over-par on his last outing of the season.

"We couldn't ever seem to really hit our high gear," Head Coach Rick Stewart Stated.  "However this was great experience for these young men moving forward and we hope to ride the momentum into next season."
