Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear men's soccer suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Richard Bland College 1-0.

Both teams entered the game undefeated, with Richard Bland ranking 19th in the country.

The game remained scoreless for all of the first half and much of the second. The lone goal came on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

Cape Fear had plenty of time to rebound, and held a man advantage for the last 30 minutes of the game after a red card was shown to Richard Bland's Nikola Aleksic in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the back of the net.

The Sea Devils outshot the Statesmen 13-6, but managed only four on target. While they had more shot attempts, Richard Bland produced more corners at 6-1.

It was a very balanced game, but in the end we lost," said head coach C.W. Ponton. "We need to learn from this game and go into our next game more prepared."

Cape Fear drops to 3-1 on the season both overall and in conference play. They play next on September 19th at home against Louisburg College at 3:30 p.m.
