Men's Soccer Falls to Richard Bland

South Prince George, VA - Cape Fear men's soccer lost, 3-0, to Richard Bland College on Monday.

The Sea Devils got behind early thanks to a 5th minute goal by Richard Bland's Henrique Castelhano. Richard Bland's Antonio Ferreira doubled his team's lead in the 19th minute.

While Cape Fear's play improved in the second, they weren't able to find the back of the net, and Richard Bland scored the third and final goal off a penalty kick in the 89th minute.

"If we were [able] to start and finish the game like we did in the second half the game would have been very different," said assistant coach Barrier.

A few Sea Devils did stand out, however. Brooks McGill played with heavy defensive work rate, while Michael Matsinger made a number of key saves as he covered for defensive mistakes.

"[It was a] good performance by Brooks in the back. He held his own and was solid the whole game."

Head Coach C.W. Ponton wants to see better communication from his players.

"Our communication and leadership is killing [us]," said coach Ponton. "We have no sense of urgency. I'm looking for players who have the next man up mentality, but it's inconsistent from those who don't have injuries. We need a higher work rate and I'm not sure if time from this storm will do us any favors."

Cape Fear drops to 3-3 on the season. Wednesday and Friday's game for this week have been postponed due to Hurricane Florence. Their next scheduled game is set for Wednesday, September 19th, where they will face off against USC Sumter at home at 4:00 p.m.
