Charles Basse of Charlotte, NC has committed to continue his playing career at Queens University of Charlotte after one season with the Cape Fear Sea Devils. Charles transferred to Cape Fear after red shirting at UNC Greensboro. In only 8 games for the Sea Devils Charles bagged 11 goals and 1 assist leading the NJCAA Region 10 with an astounding 2.88 PPG. Charles struggled with a few injuries but definitely made an impression on Region 10 and was named NJCAA Region 10 All Region First Team.
Coach Ponton had a lot of praise for Charles saying, "Imagine some of the worst things you could face in a season. While it states 8 games, Charles truly played 7 and a few seconds of another which makes his PPG even more impressive. So start your season off flying, scoring goals (two of which were OT winners), then follow the 20 days of nothing from the hurricane delay and then come back and continue to score goals and put in good performances. The most impressive was his last game with us. No one knew exactly what happened but Charles was pushed into the opponents goal on one of our corners. He came back into the game with a fractured ankle and scored the game tying goal. Shortly after he was taken out again when he was breaking to goal and that ended his 2018 season for Cape Fear. This was followed up by pure determination from Charles to come back and commit to his top choice school. We're happy to have seen Charles grow as a person in his short time at Cape Fear and look forward to having him back on the field in our spring games."
Queens Head Coach Oliver Carias said "We are excited to have Charles join our Queens family. He will be a great asset to our future success. He is a dangerous player up top with great skill to score goals."
