Men's Soccer Wins Home Opener

Wilmington, NC- Cape Fear Mens soccer defeated Paul D Camp Community College 5-1 in home opener at Cape Fear Academy.

Cape Fear scored two goals in the first half and added three in the second.  Francisco Tavara and Charles Barkman each tallied one goal apiece, while freshman forward Marcos Reyes finished the game with a hat trick in his first career college game.

Freshman Tristan Torbett, central midfielder was a huge reason for the Sea Devils performance. Coach C.W. Ponton says "It was very clear that we controlled the game more when he was on the field".

Sophomore captain Taylor Trimble was able to lock down the Hurricanes attack by composing play in the back field.

"It was a good team win. I went very deep through the bench as it was our first game of the season and we're still working on fitness. I'm happy we didn't allow any goals during the run of play, but I stressed set pieces at half time and that clearly wasn't stressed enough. I'll take the win, but I know we can perform better than we did today" said coach Ponton.

Cape Fear improves to 1-0 on the season.  The Sea Devils open conference play this Saturday August 31st as they take on Spartanburg Methodist. This game will be played at 4:00 in Spartanburg, SC.
