Men's Soccer Suffers Season Ending Loss

Wilmington, NC- Men's soccer loses final game of the season 1-0 to USC Salkehatchie.

In their final game of the season the Sea Devils were just not able to get it going on the offensive side of the field. They controlled the ball for most of the first half but couldn't seem to finish. USC Salkehatchie scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the second half. Taylor Trimble had a solid day of defense in his final game with the Sea Devils. Jair Mondragon controlled the play on both sides of the field, while Kobe Hepburn created attacks down the flanks. Sophomore Wells Bridgforth had a great day in goal as he had 5 saves.

Coach C.W Ponton says "without a doubt we were in full control of the game in the first half until we were given a red card right before the whistle blew from an immature act by one of our boys. We still controlled the first 20 minutes of the second half but the main adjustment we made at the end of the first half was no longer available since we were playing man down for 45 minutes. It cost us the game, but mistakes throughout the season cost us the playoff run. It's such a rarity to see a team win when down a man for so long but I'm proud of my boys for putting up such a good fight and I'm even more proud of my sophomores and what they've brought to the program. They will be missed".

The Sea Devils end their season with an overall 6-7 record and 4-6 in conference play.
