Sea Devils Fall in Season Finale

Overland Park, KS - Playing for the fourth time in five days, the Cape Fear Community College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end following a 90-85 setback to Owens Community College (Perrysburg, Ohio) in the fifth place game at the National Junior College Athletic Association DII Tournament.

Cape Fear jumped out to a 22-17 lead after the opening 10 minutes and held a 45-39 advantage at the break. Chrystall Jerome scored 10 of her 17 points during the first half, but finished just 2-for-9 from behind the arc as the Sea Devils hit six of 21 three-point attempts.

Jasmine Brown held game-high honors with 22 and 10 rebounds, while Desaree Green chipped in with 16 points.

Owens cut the deficit to a bucket heading into the final frame and outscored Cape Fear 24-17 during the fourth quarter to grab the comeback result. Tatyana Reynolds had a team-high 21 points in the win, while Jeryn Reese added 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Owens made 7 of 11 from long range as Reynolds knocked down five treys. Four different players finished in double figures in the winning effort.

The Sea Devils entered the 16-team bracket as a six-seed and closed the year with an impressive 27-3 overall mark under first-year Coach Chris Harris.
