Cape Fear Routes Indians

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear Community College erupted for nine goals as the Sea Devils cruised past USC-Salkehatchie in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Allyson McLamb put Cape Fear on the board 15 seconds into the first half on her way to recording the hat trick, while Rachael Handy tallied two goals over the opening 45 minutes. Vivian Fernandez and Gabby Serpa also found the back of the net to give the Sea Devils a 6-1 advantage at the break.

"We are improving and that is key right now," said CFCC Coach Ryan Deppa. "We tried some things in the second half and the players adapted well to the changes. I was happy to see us continue to evolve and grow as a team. Our backs and midfield played key roles in creating our attack."

The second half started quickly as Raime Cooper scored an unassisted goal, while Karlie Yeomans and Alyssa Coustenis each added two assists.  Morgan Purcell added one goal to round out the Sea Devil scoring. Melissa Cruz made one save for the Sea Devils, who improved to 2-0 in Region 10 play and 2-2 overall.

Cape Fear plays five of their next six games on the road beginning at USC-Lancaster on Tuesday, September 15.
