Sea Devils Claim Regular Season Title

Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear Community College women's soccer team closed the regular season with a pair of results over the weekend to clinch the Region 10 Regular Season Title.

Allyson Mclamb scored the game winner off a pass from Raime Cooper with five minutes left in the first half as the Sea Devils defeated Louisburg College 1-0 on Saturday. Emily Valiente made one save to preserve the clean sheet.

"I thought we did a fantastic job as a team to limit Louisburg's chances and to create some dangerous scoring opportunities for ourselves," said CFCC Coach Ryan Deppa. "The girls worked hard this week to help us begin to step our game to the next level as we prepare for the Region 10 Tournament. This was a solid win for us."

Coming off the emotional nail-biter against Louisburg, Cape Fear headed to Allendale, South Carolina on Sunday for their season finale and blanked USC-Salkehatchie 7-0 to close the 2015 slate at 10-2 in conference and 10-6 overall.

"To earn the No. 1 seed for the tournament and bring home the conference title is something we've been working towards," Deppa added. "It's great for the girls to see their work reaping some of the rewards. Now it's time to amp it up even more as we head into the postseason."

Katie Causey and Emily Bessey both tallied twice in the win. Jenna Pecorini added one goal and one assist and Madison Manship found the back of the net. Alyssa Coustenis also scored her 16th goal of the regular season.

The Sea Devils begin play in the Region 10 Tournament semifinals at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 31. The match will be held at Legion Stadium in Wilmington.
