WILMINGTON, NC – The Sea Devils will resume their home opening weekend action in Day 2 of the CFCC Port City Classic with a match-up against (1-0) Howard Community College on Sunday afternoon. The Sea Devils are (5-1) all-time against Howard Community College.

The Dragons finished last season 14-2, (7-0 in conference), a record that earned the program a regular season conference title in Region 20.  The Sea Devils finished last season 11-7, (10-2 in conference), a record that too earned the program a regular season conference title in Region 10.

The Sea Devils are coming off their (4-0) victory over Frederick Community College on the opening day of the CFCC Port City Classic Saturday evening.

"We are right where we are supposed to be at the season. Girls have been working hard towards growth off the field, and progress on the field," said Coach Deppa on his Sea Devil squad following the victory over Frederick Community College.

"Howard players are tough and work for each other. The Howard staff always does a good job to have them ready on game day." 

Kick-off for today's match is scheduled for 1:00pm (EST) at Cape Fear Academy.

CFCC PORT CITY CLASSIC DAY 1 RECAP
The Sea Devils played in the second game of the opening day of the CFCC Port City Classic following Howard Community College's victory over Oxford College of Emory University.

Cape Fear did not waste much time before they were able to find the back of the net, following a goal from freshman Janessa Annis in the 5th minute, her first goal of her career with the Sea Devils. The Sea Devils would later get a goal from Janessa Annis in the 36th minute (unassisted), her second of the match, followed by goals scored by Allyson Mclamb (38th minute- assisted by Raime Cooper), and Emily Valenti (74th minute- assisted by Ashley Carter).

RECENT HISTORY VERSUS HOWARD CC
August 28, 2015
The Dragons came out with the (1-0) victory over the Sea Devils in the game's lone goal scored by Elisa Mobley (20th minute). The Sea Devils did manage to record eight shots on goal but were unable to get one past former Howard CC goalkeeper Darcy Bodziony.

August 23, 2014
The Sea Devils defeated Howard CC (4-0) at home in the team's fourth all-time meeting each other on the pitch. Cape Fear had goal contributions from Alex Strickland (7th Minute), Karlie Yeomans (12th and 32nd Minute), and Larissa Bonilla (42nd minute).

-          Recorded her first collegiate win and shutout in the team's (2-0) victory in their season opener over Anne Arundel Community College on August 23, 2016
-          Faced only 3 shots on goal in her debut for the Dragons

Sophomore MD Celeste Costabile
-          Recorded 16 appearances (15 starts) last season, while she recorded 4 goals, and 8 points
-          Tailed 16 shots in her 16 appearances; had a .250 shot%, which ranked her second on the team

SEA DEVILS' TO WATCH
Freshman Janessa Annis
-       Scored 2 goals in the Sea Devils first game of the season on Saturday versus Frederick CC in Day 1 of the CFCC Port City Classic

Freshman GK Elizabeth Ethridge
-       Recorded 45 minutes in relief in the 2nd half in the Sea Devils season opener versus Frederick CC
-       Recorded a clean sheet in her minutes played; 0 goals were scored on Ethridge

Freshman Ashley Carter
-       Recorded her first career assist with the program in the team's (4-0) victory over Frederick CC
-       Comes to the Sea Devils after her high school career at Whiteville HS, in Whiteville, NC

COACH'S CORNER
Coach Ryan Deppa addressed that the biggest key to victory in today's match against  Howard Community College is, "We will need to have a quick recovery and work towards playing a smart game vs Howard. A big part is how our players handle the recovery between now and pregame tomorrow."

"Celine Jacobi-Barham has been working hard on the back line," said Coach Ryan Deppa following the team's week in practice regarding a player who stood out this week.
