Sea Devils Roll Past USC Salkehatchie

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear's women's soccer team remained undefeated, beating conference opponent USC Salkehatchie 11-0.

The Sea Devils would apply a ton of pressure from the opening whistle. Allyson McLamb would open the game with a goal in the 2nd minute, off an assist from Janessa Annis.

In the 5th minute, Gabbie Sepra would get a breakaway chance, but her shot would go right to the keeper. The Sea Devils would continue to apply pressure, making it difficult for the Indians to keep possession.

Emily Valenti would score the second goal of the game, assisted Sierra Raynor. Raynor would then score the team's third goal less than a minute later.

The large lead made things comfortable for the home side. Salkehatchie were pinned back into their own third, with Cape Fear staying strong in their attack.

Alyssa Coustenis scored Cape Fear's fourth, after a shot by Annis was saved by the goalkeeper. Coustenis would collect the rebound, and place her shot in from the left side.

Time would stop after the fourth goal so Salkehatchie's goalkeeper could receive treatment. She would be subbed off, but return in the second half.

Soon after play resumed, Annis would score her team's fifth goal off a penalty kick, placing her shot low and into the left corner of the goal.

Cape Fear maintained nearly all of possession in the first half. They sat comfortably in the final third, moving the ball around and picking their chances.

Late in the first half, Alaina Capps would score the team's sixth goal, off an assist by Raime Cooper.

The girls would pick up right where they left off at the start of the second half, as Coustenis would score her second of the game, with an assist by Raynor.

Raynor would get her second goal of the game in the 60th minute, curling a shot past the keeper into the ride corner of the goal. She would get her third and complete a hat trick three minutes later, as the goalkeeper would be unable to handle her shot.

Afterwards, Raynor was ecstatic with scoring the hat trick. "It was awesome, I loved it." She also made sure to credit her teammates. "It wouldn't of happened if I didn't have my teammates. All of my goals were assisted."

Cape Fear would draw a penalty in the 73rd minute, and Annis would pick up her second goal of the game.

Noemi Mata would cap off the night, scoring her first career goal on a penalty in the 88th minute.

From that point, the Sea Devils would comfortably finish out the game.

Head coach Ryan Deppa was pleased with his team's performance. "The kids played great in the back, middle, and up top. You can't ask for much more, and they made the game fun to watch."

With the win, Cape Fear improves to 4-0 on the season. They will play next against conference opponent Louisburg College Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at Legion Stadium.
