Cape Fear Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated

Spartanburg, SC - The Cape Fear women's soccer team defeated Spartanburg Methodist College Monday, by a score of 3-0. Sophomore Jenna Pecorini, freshman Alaina Capps and Sierra Raynor each scored for the Sea Devils.

"We beat a good team on the road," said head coach Ryan Deppa, citing Spartanburg Methodist's 16th ranking in the NSCAA National Poll. "They have a few special players that made it tough on is. Our girls earned a shutout."

Cape Fear would pick up their first goal early in the 4th minute, as Pecorini would score off an assist from sophomore Alyssa Coustenis.

Capps would finish off a great scoring opportunity in the 22nd minute for Cape Fear's second goal. Her goal would come thanks to freshman Janessa Annis, who would provide the assist a minute after being subbed onto the field.

The Sea Devils would enter halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Midway through the second half, Cape Fear would get their 3rd and final goal, as Raynor would find the net off an assist from sophomore Raime Cooper.

Along with the goals, freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Ethridge earned a shutout, making 12 saves in the game.

Despite the scoreline, Deppa noted his team was fortunate at times throughout the game. "[The] crazy thing is we were lucky on a handful of occasions when defending. We looked tired, lacked commitment to defending as a team and struggled for a good amount of the game on both sides of the ball."

However, some of those lapses, Deppa notes, fall on him. "I have to do a better job as their coach because we are better than today's performance."

Still, despite their struggles today, Deppa was more than pleased with his team's performance. "The great thing is that even on our not so great days, the team is finding a way to earn positive results, and that is pretty special."

With the win, Cape Fear improves to 9-0 overall, and 7-0 in conference.

Their next game is on the road Thursday, October 6th at 5 p.m. against Pfeffier University's JV.
