Women's Soccer Falls On the Road to Monroe

Rochester, NY - #20 ranked Cape Fear women's soccer fell to #10 ranked Monroe Community College, 7-1, on Sunday.

"The scoreline is not what any of us at Cape Fear wanted," said head coach Ryan Deppa. "We knew playing our second game in two days was going to be a challenge. We knew that Monroe Community College has worked very hard to continue to be a traditional national power and that we would be up against it."

Sophomore Dani Donavan scored the Sea Devils' only goal in the final minutes of the game after breaking into the box and finishing. She was assisted by sophomore Kaitlin Plienis.

While Cape Fear knew they would be in for a tough match, coach Deppa said there was little they could do against Monroe's Roosa Ariyo, who scored six of her team's seven goals.

"I have been around NJCAA soccer for a good amount of time and her performance was on a whole new level," said coach Deppa.

Despite the loss, Deppa is proud of the Sea Devils.

"I am proud of our team. They had to fight and respond in a positive way in very challenging moments today in Rochester, NY. We have a tough team here and that was evident to me once again today."

Cape Fear moves to 1-1 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for Saturday, September 1st, where they will take on Spartanburg Methodist on the road at 4:00 p.m.
