Women's Soccer Defeats Oxford College 1-0

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear women's soccer (5-1) won, 1-0, over Oxford College at Emory University (3-2) in a Sunday morning game.

The Sea Devils lone goal came courtesy of Carly Higgins, who scored off an assist from Esperanza McKay in the 20th minute.

Higgins goal gives her ninth on the season. McKay's assist is her first of the season.

With only a one goal lead, Cape Fear had to focus to stay ahead. Oxford College came in averaging 2.25 goals per game. They entered this morning's game on a three game win streak and had notched a win over Howard Community College the day before.

But the Sea Devils defense was up to the task, and they prevented the Eagles from scoring. Goalkeeper C.J. Garvey was strong in goal, and she earned her fifth cleansheet of the season.

The win was the team's second of the Port City Classic, and improved their overall record to 5-1.
