C.J Garvey Named NJCAA Goalie of the Week

Wilmington, NC - Last week, Sea Devils goalkeeper C.J Garvey earned NJCAA Division 1 Women's Soccer Goalie of the Week honors.

Garvey, a sophomore from Raleigh, NC, has earned 15 shutouts this season, not allowing a goal in 15 of Cape Fear's 16 wins.

This honor comes during an unbeaten stretch of six games in seven days, in which she allowed just one goal.

"It is a great feeling to represent Cape Fear on a national level," said Garvey. "Playing six games in seven days is almost unheard of, and I'm glad I got to experience it with some of my favorite people in the world. I could not have done it without the support of my coaches and teammates."

Garvey's play this season has inspired the Sea Devils to a current unbeaten streak of 16 games, capped off by a 2-1 win against Spartanburg Methodist in the Region 10 Conference Championship game.

"We would like to thank the NJCAA for recognizing C.J's work as a goalkeeper for the NJCAA Division 1 Goalkeeper of the week," said head coach Ryan Deppa. "This is a huge honor for C.J, and a great honor for our team. C.J is a talented goalkeeper and an important part of our program. She works hard to be a good student and a loyal teammate. We are very glad she chose Cape Fear to kick off the beginning of her college experience."

Garvey and the Sea Devils will move on to the Southeast District tournament, scheduled for November 2-3.
