Lydia Smith Signs with Liberty University

Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear Community College athletics program prides itself on its rigorous academic program, numerous athletic championships and ultimately producing quality players for four-year colleges/universities.

Sea Devil athletics announced Thursday, April 15th, that freshman lefty Lydia Smith signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Liberty University to pursue her academic and athletic endeavors.

Lydia garnered All-Region accolades this past season, leading the Sea Devils to 17 wins.  As a freshman, she ranked second on the team in kills with 201 and third in blocks with 69.

Smith graduated from Coastal Christian High School, where she was an all-state nominee and Cougar Classic All-Tournament team member in 2013. During her final year of high school, Smith recorded 302 kills, 77 blocks, 49 aces and 225 digs, ranking second in the NCISSA in blocking and fourth in attacking.

"We are excited about signing Lydia to our program," Liberty Head Coach Shane Pinder stated. "She brings a year of college experience with her as a transfer. She also has good size and length as a lefty right side attacker. I feel her quickness and explosiveness will allow her to adjust to this level in a short period of time."
