Cape Fear Women's Volleyball Weekend Doubleheader Preview

Match #21: Potomac State College of WVU vs Cape Fear Community College (14-6)

WILMINGTON, NC --- The Sea Devil Women's Volleyball program will look to extend their winning streak to 12 matches in a row on their home Saturday match doubleheader. The Sea Devils will host Region 20 opponent, Potomac State College of WVU, in their first match at 11:00am (EST) from the Schwartz Center. The Catamounts enter the match-up with a (17-4) overall record, and a (7-0) record in Region 20 conference play.

"We are staying focused on our goals, and we are continuing to work hard every day," said Sea Devil Women's Volleyball head coach Emily Coleman on Saturday's doubleheader versus Potomac State College of WVU and Spartanburg Methodist.

Cape Fear is coming off a 3-0, (25-16, 25-12, and 25-15) victory over in-conference opponent Pitt Community College on Tuesday evening.

"This was the best we have played overall all season. We passed extremely well and we're able to run our middles effortlessly," said Sea Devil Women's Volleyball head coach Emily Coleman in her post-game presser following the victory over the Bulldogs

Leading the way for the Sea Devils in their match versus the Catamounts is freshman Outside Hitter Cali Watson, who is coming off a 14.5 Point performance (10 Kills, 1 Dig, 3 Blocks), sophomore MB Tressa Amico (11.0 Points, 3 Kills, 6 Digs, 6 Blocks), and sophomore libero Chelsea Bailey (4.0 Points, 12 Digs, 3 Assists, 4 Aces) in their match versus Pitt Community College.

As for the Catamounts, leading the way are three players to watch:

Sophomore middle hitter Shayla Hillian, who has recorded 216.5 Total Points this season (148 Kills, 37 Serve Aces, 12 Solo Blocks, 58 Digs, and 1 Assist) while appearing in all 21 matches while playing in 63 sets.

Freshman outside hitter Ericka Gordon, who has recorded 157.5 Total Points this season (120 Kills, 29 Serve Aces, 3 Solo Blocks, and 162 Digs) while appearing in all 21 matches while playing in 62 sets.

Freshman defensive specialist/libero Makaleigh Roberts, who has recorded 24 Total Points this season (3 Kills, 21 Serve Aces, 2 Assists, and 246 Digs).

At the helm for the Catamounts is Martha Ganoe who is currently coaching in her seventh year with the women's volleyball program. Ganoe has recorded a (156-46) all-time record at Potomac State College while being a five-time recipient of WPCC Coach of the Year award. Ganoe is assisted by former collegiate volleyball player Shari Beavers who played her collegiate volleyball and softball career at Frostburg State University.

Potomac State College enters the match-up versus Cape Fear Community College as the winners of nine straight matches, outscoring their opponents by win each match (3-0) on their win streak to this point.

The Sea Devils and the Catamounts have split the series at (1-1) in their all-time meetings against each other in Sea Devil Women's Volleyball program history.

Match #22: Spartanburg Methodist College (15-9) vs Cape Fear Community College (14-6)

WILMINGTON, NC--- The Sea Devil Women's Volleyball program will close out their Saturday home doubleheader with a 3pm (EST) match-up versus Spartanburg Methodist, who enters with a (15-9) overall record, who are (1-3) in their last four matches.

The Sea Devils are (6-0) in home matches while the Pioneers are (6-2) in away matches this season; "Our keys will be to control our serve and receive because this creates so many things for our offense, said Sea Devil Women's Volleyball head coach Emily Coleman prior to the match versus Spartanburg Methodist College.

The Sea Devils are (10-11) all-time versus the Pioneer Women's Volleyball program in Cape Fear's women's volleyball program history.

Leading the way for players to watch for the Pioneer Women's Volleyball team are, freshman middle blocker Jaycie Johnson, sophomore outside hitter Julia Panas, and sophomore OH/Setter Courtney Williamson.

Johnson, has recorded 187.5 Total Points, (121 Kills, 37 Solo Blocks, 41 Digs, 7 Assists, and 3 Serve Aces) while appearing in 23 matches, and playing in 76 sets.

Panas, has recorded 178.0 Total Points, (148 Kills, 4 Solo Blocks, 16 Serve Aces, 165 Digs, and 3 Assists), while appearing in 22 matches, and playing in 64 sets.

Williamson, has recorded 164.0 Total Points, (142 Kills, 6 Solo Blocks, 168 Assists, 9 Serve Aces, and 191 Digs), while appearing in 23 matches and playing in 70 sets.

Following Saturday's result versus Spartanburg Methodist College, the Sea Devil Women's Volleyball program will return to the floor on Tuesday, October 25, versus Lenoir Community College at 6pm (EST) in their annual "Dig Pink/Fan Appreciation" match.
