Raleigh, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball earned a place in the Region 10 conference championship with a 3-1 win over Surry Community College, but would fall in the championship match 3-1 against Catawba Valley Community College.
Against Surry, Cape Fear would drop the opening set, before winning the next three to win the match.
Sophomore Amber Tyndall lead with 18 kills, while sophomore Kacie Markle finished with 17. Sophomore Faryn Salazar 24, and freshman Ali Jenkins each finished with 24 assists.
"Surry came out and challenged us for sure," said head coach Emily Coleman afterwards. "We went down the first set, but we fought back hard and saw season highs [in kills] from Amber and Kacie."
The win secured them a place in the championship game, where they faced up against top seeded Catawba Valley.
Cape Fear would win the first set 25-16, but then lose the next three 14-25, 16-25, and 16-25.
Markle led with eight kills, four digs, and four blocks against Catawba, while Faryn Salazar finished with 16 assists and six digs.
"[It was a] tough loss versus a good team," said Coleman. "We were ready, it just did not end the way we liked."
Despite the loss, Coleman praised her team for their accomplishments this season. "I've been so proud of this team all season. The sophomores will be truly missed."
The loss against Catawba Valley marks the end of the season for the Sea Devils. They finished with an overall record of 21-7, and a conference record of 15-1. Combined with the regular season and postseason play, the Sea Devils won a school record 18 matches in a row.
