Volleyball Wins Opening Conference Match

Kinston, NC - Cape Fear volleyball won its opening conference match of the season, defeating Lenoir Community College 3-0.

Sophomore Payton Schoenleber finished with eight kills, while sophomore Ali Jenkins led the team with 27 assists.

The Sea Devils won the first set rather smoothly by a score of 25-17. The next two were much closer, however, with Cape Fear edging Lenoir 27-25 in the second set and 25-20 in the third.

"We fight so hard which will carry us far," head coach Emily Coleman said of her team's effort.

The Sea Devils entered tonight's match after being off since September 2nd. The team had been scheduled to compete in the PHSC Bobcat Invitational in New Port Richey, Florida, but Hurricane Irma caused the tournament to be cancelled.

"It was a tough thing to come in tonight after being off two weeks, but we've really worked hard [in practice]."

The team improves to 3-0 on the season, and 1-0 in conference play.

They won't have to wait another two weeks to play again, as their next match is scheduled for this Saturday, September 16th, where they will take on Macomb Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia at 2:00 p.m. The match will kick off the first of two that day, as the team competes in the Bryant & Stratton Tournament.
