Cape Fear Volleyball Rallies to Win

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear volleyball rallied to win the final two sets and defeat Louisburg College, 3-2.

The first set was tightly contested and went into extra points, but the Sea Devils fell short 27-29. They rebounded in the second set, which was also close, and came out on top 28-26.

The third set went much the same as the previous two, but the Hurricanes managed to take it, and Cape Fear found themselves facing elimination down 2-1 heading into the fourth set.

They found their footing in the fourth, winning by the match's largest margin of 25-17, and forcing a tie breaking fifth set. Having gained momentum, the Sea Devils continued their strong play from the fourth, winning the final set 15-9 and taking the match.

Heading into tonight, the team had focused on not dwelling on the previous play, which head coach Emily Coleman believes helped them earn the win.

"We have worked on moving into the next play and I think at times we did that tonight when we were down."

That said, Coleman wants to see them hold onto leads, stating, "...we have to do a better job finishing games when we're up."

Freshman Shilah Haumann led with 12 kills, while sophomore Ali Jenkins totaled 50 assists.

The win improves Cape Fear to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference.

They play next on Friday, September 22nd, where they will face Surry Community College on the road at 6:00 p.m.
