Volleyball Defeats Pitt CC

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear volleyball continued its winning ways, defeating Pitt Community College, 3-1.

The Sea Devils entered the match undefeated at 10-0, while Pitt came in winners of four of the past five games, posting a record of 8-6.

In the first set, sophomore Ali Jenkins suffered a tweaked ankle that disrupted the rhythm of the team, causing them to drop the set 22-25. Jenkins recovered from the injury, and went on to total 47 assists and six digs.

The Sea Devils also recovered, and took the second set 25-18.

"We got a little frazzled after Ali tweaked her ankle, but we pulled it together in the second set," said head coach Emily Coleman.

Cape Fear had little trouble in the third set, winning 25-15. The Bulldogs nearly forced a tiebreaker in the fourth, but the Sea Devils hung on to win 25-23.

"When we play fast we are hard to stop," said Coleman. "We need to continue to play at our pace."

Shilah Haumann finished with 11 kills and four blocks, while Karly Mathias had 24 digs.

Cape Fear improves to 11-0 overall, and 8-0 in conference. They play next on Thursday, September 28th, where they will take on Northern Virginia Community College in a non-conference game at home. The match starts at 6:00 p.m.
