Volleyball Loses to Wake Tech

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear volleyball lost a five set match to Wake Tech Community College 3-2 on Saturday.

The Sea Devils took the first set fairly comfortably, 25-14. It was their most dominant set of the match, as they totaled 11 kills and a match high hitting percentage of .346. The Eagles responded in the second set, however, winning 25-18. While Cape Fear managed nine kills, they committed eight errors, and hit just .026 percent.

The back and forth nature continued into the third and fourth sets. Cape Fear took the third 25-16, finishing with another 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .269. Wake Tech responded again in the fourth, winning 25-17 as errors plagued the home team again.

It set up a deciding fifth set. Cape Fear limited the amount of errors, committing just two, but Wake Tech was able to take the late lead and took the set 15-12.

"Wake got hot when they needed to, and we struggled to get back on top," said head coach Emily Coleman afterwards.

Kayla Mathias finished with 30 digs, while Shilah Haumann had nine kills and four blocks. Payton Schoenleber also added 14 kills.

Despite solid performances from various Sea Devils, what ultimately cost the team, according to Coleman, was not remaining mentally tough throughout the match.

"We weren't as mentally tough as we needed to be at times."

Cape Fear drops to 15-4 overall, and 8-1 in conference play.
