Volleyball Rebounds with a Win

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear volleyball rebounded from a loss earlier in the day to defeat Davidson County Community College, 3-1.

The Sea Devils started strong, winning the first set 25-9. They totaled eight kills and only two errors, and hit .231. They were unable to build a two set lead; however, as Davidson responded by winning the second set 25-20. Cape Fear committed nine errors in the set, which was more than the other three sets combined.

The second set loss was a wake up call for the Sea Devils, who dominated the rest of the match, winning the third and fourth sets 25-13. In particular, they were impressive in the final set, finishing with 11 kills, one error, and a hitting percentage of .417.

Plenty of Sea Devils put in strong performances, starting with Shilah Haumann, who finished with 13 kills and 11 blocks. Meanwhile, Madison Spencer had six kills, while Karly Mathias had 21 digs. Lindsay Thompson was locked in serving, finishing with four aces. She also had eight digs.

The win over Davidson County comes hours after suffering a tough, 3-2 loss to Wake Tech Community College. It was the kind of response head coach Emily Coleman was looking for.

"We bounced back against Davidson County," said Coleman, "but we still need to find our sweet spot to take control of a match."

Coleman emphasized the importance of playing a complete match, and staying in control of the match instead of letting opponents back in.

"We let teams get going after we start strong. We will focus this week on playing point 1-25."

Cape Fear improves to 16-4 on the season with the win. They play next on Monday, October 16th against Louisburg College at 6:00 p.m.
