Volleyball Defeats Pitt CC On the Road

Winterville, NC - Cape Fear volleyball defeated Pitt Community College 3-1 on the road Tuesday evening.

The match featured two teams sitting 1st and 2nd in the conference. Cape Fear entered with an overall record of 18-4, while Pitt came in with a record of 18-9.

The match proved a test for the Sea Devils, who battled the Bulldogs in all four sets. Cape Fear was efficient in the first set, hitting .304 percent with 10 kills and only three errors. Pitt hung around; however, but Cape Fear managed to win 25-23.

The second set was just as close, and the Sea Devils nearly cost themselves by committing a game high 10 errors. However, they overcame the sloppy play to win 25-23.

More errors plagued them in the third set, and this time, Pitt was able to take advantage, winning 27-25. The road team cut down on them in the fourth, though, and put away Pitt with a 25-19 win.

"Good win off of a long weekend break," said head coach Emily Coleman. "We kept plugging along, but we need to maintain consistency and control the ball on our side of the net. Our middles were solid for us tonight."

Cape Fear had many strong performers, including Jennifer Shirley, who finished with seven kills, and Madison Spencer, who had 11 kills five blocks. Shilah Haumann led the team with 12 kills five blocks.

The Sea Devils improve to 19-4 overall, and 12-1 in conference play.

They play their final regular season match at home against Catawba Valley Community College this Saturday, October 28th, at 11:00 a.m.
