Volleyball Falls to Catawba Valley CC

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear volleyball lost its final regular season match, 3-1, to Catawba Valley Community College.

The two teams entered Saturday's match at the top of their respective conferences in NJCAA Region 10, with the Sea Devils leaders of the East, and the Red Hawks atop the West with an undefeated conference record.

Catawba took the first set 25-16. The Sea Devils played better in the second set, but lost by a close margin of 25-22. They avoided the sweep in the third set, winning 25-22, but the Red Hawks finished off Cape Fear in the fourth, 25-15.

Shilah Haumann finished with 12 kills, while Ali Jenkins had 40 assists.

"They took us out mentally, and we had a hard time recognizing after that," said head coach Emily Coleman. "I'm proud we fought and executed the game play in the third set, but we can't shoot ourselves in the foot with errors. It makes it too easy on a team."

The Sea Devils drop to 19-5 overall, and 12-2 in conference play. Catawba Valley, meanwhile, won its sixth straight conference regular season title as a result.

Cape Fear moves on the to NJCAA Region 10 Tournament, which will be played at Brunswick Community College in Bolivia. The tournament kicks off November 3rd, but the time and opponent for Cape Fear has yet to be determined.
