Volleyball Bounces Back in Second Match

Dobson, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball (1-1) rebounded from a loss earlier in the day to defeat Louisburg College (4-3) 3-2 to win their first match of the season.

As is often the case in five set matches, the Sea Devils went back and forth with the Hurricanes. Cape Fear dropped the first set 25-12, but came back strong by edging Louisburg 25-23 in the second set. They then took more control in the third with a 25-19 win.

But Louisburg refused to go away, forcing a fifth and final set after a 25-13 win in the fourth.

The final set was close, but the Sea Devils got the points they needed late, taking the final set 15-12 in route to their first match win of the season.

"[It] feels good to get our first win," said head coach Heather Emborsky.

There were plenty of standouts in Friday's win. Lindsay Thompson led the team in digs with 19, while Taylor Long finished with 18 kills. Maryellie Carpenter added 12 kills, while Neryssa Donnell finished with eight digs.

Now standing at 1-1, Cape Fear will return home to face off against Fayetteville Tech Community College on Wednesday, September 12th. It will be the first home match of the season for the Sea Devils. Gametime is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
