Hickory, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball lost two matches on Friday to South Florida State and Lansing Community College by scores of 3-0.

The Sea Devils fought hard against South Florida State, but lost in three sets by scores 22-25, 11-25, and 18-25.

Maryellie Carpenter led Cape Fear with 10 digs, while Taylor Long finished with 9 kills, three blocks, and one ace. Meanwhile, Madison Spencer had 10 kills, while Lindsay Thompson added 19 digs.

"[I'm] not seeing the strongest performance out of the players," said head coach Heather Emborsky. "[It] has been frustrating, but we will continue to work hard to get past the mental errors."

Things would not go better in the second match against Lansing, unfortunately.

Cape Fear lost again in three sets by scores of 14-25, 10-25, and 19-25, respectively. The team combined for five aces.

Maryellie Carpenter led with nine kills, while Madison Spencer added seven.

The second loss of the day prompted coach Emborsky to demand more from her players.

"It was a poor performance all around," said coach Embroksy. "The girls must step up the level of play to have success this season. They have to play with heart and purpose."

The two losses drop Cape Fear to 1-4 on the season.
