Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Davidson County Community College 3-0 but losing to USC Lancaster 3-1 later in the afternoon.
The Sea Devils won the three straight sets against Davidson by scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-14.
Taylor Long led the team with 18 kills and one ace, Madison Spencer added nine kills and three blocks, and Kelly Brinkman finished with two blocks.
"The girls gathered themselves well after two tough losses from the night before," said head coach Heather Emborsky. "[It's] great to see them bounce back and pull off the win."
However, Cape Fear wouldn't be able to put to wins together against Lancaster. While the Sea Devils won the first set 25-17, they were narrowly defeated in the next three sets by scores of 23-25, 20-25, and 21-25.
In this match, Spencer led her team with 10 kills seven blocks, while Long finished with 10 kills and two blocks. Callie Weaver added seven kills and a team high 18 digs.
"Though it was a loss, the overall performance of the team was a step up from what they gave yesterday," said coach Emborsky. "I know it's hard playing five matches in three days, but we have to push through it and keep working hard."
Cape Fear's record now stands at 4-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Their next match is scheduled for Monday, October 22nd, where they will face off against USC Salkehatchie on the road at 4:00 p.m.
