Sea Devils Falls Short in Region 10 Tournament

Kinston, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball ended its season with a 3-1 loss to Surry Community College in the Region 10 Tournament.

The Sea Devils lost a close opening set 27-29 before evening the match with a 25-19 second set win. The third and fourth sets were both close, but the Sea Devils couldn't come out on top in either, losing 21-25 and 23-25, respectively.

Taylor Long finished with a team high 11 kills, along with three blocks and an ace. Callie Weaver finished with 10 kills and 16 digs, while Madison Spencer added nine kills and a team best four blocks. Maryellie Carpenter, meanwhile, totaled a team high 24 digs, along with one ace.

"The team worked hard and made Surry fight for each point, unfortunately we fell short this time," said head coach Heather Emborsky.

Coach Emborsky praised the way her squad came together this season despite a long layoff caused by Hurricane Florence.

"Though the hurricane caused some havoc, we came together in the end to clutch some conference wins and make it to the tournament," said Emborsky. "Very proud of the team and their accomplishments."

Two individual accomplishments include All-Region 10 honors of Madison Spencer and Taylor Long.

"I [am] stoked to have two players named all region," said Emborsky. "I'd also like to thank everyone in the athletic department for their support this season."

Cape Fear finishes the season with an overall record of 8-10 and a conference record of 7-6.
