Alumni Spotlight: Faronte Drakeford

Faronte Drakeford played Men's Basketball from 2011-2013. During his freshman season, Drakeford led the team in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game. In his sophomore season he averaged 17.5 points per game and helped lead his team to a 19-12 overall record. During his time at Cape Fear he was a First Team All-Conference player and Region 10 Player of the Year.

After graduating from CFCC in 2013, Drakeford transferred to Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) where he continued his academic and athletic career. In his junior season with the Blue Devils he was second on the team in scoring where he averaged 13.4 points per game and averaged 5.3 rebounds per game. Drakeford had 30 starts in 30 games and averaged 26.8 minutes per game. He was named Third Team All-Conference. In his senior season he averaged 12.9 points per game and started every game. He graduated in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Business Marketing.

After graduating from CCSU he decided to take his talents overseas to Europe where he is currently playing professional basketball. He plays for the Hiefenech Heffingen where he averages 24.8 points and 10.1 rebounds. Drakeford still keeps in contact with his former teammates and coaches. When asked how his time at CFCC helped his current career and life choices, he said "Helped me to develop the work ethic and skill it takes to play at the next level".

What was your most memorable moment looking back at your time at Cape Fear?
Playing with my teammates and playing for Coach Mantlo and Coach Lane.

If you could tell an incoming freshman one thing what would it be?
Have a goal in mind and work towards it every single day!

What is your biggest accomplishment after leaving Cape Fear? (personal or professional) 
Going on the play and graduate from a Division I university and then playing professionally.
