Men's Basketball Starts Off With Road Win

Hudson, NC - The Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils (1-0) avenged a loss in last year's conference tournament, defeating Caldwell Community College (1-1) 89-74 Friday night. Both teams found themselves in a back and forth battle for much of the first half, with Cape Fear taking a 43-39 lead into the half. The Sea Devils used a strong opening five minutes of the second frame to take control of the contest, never surrendering the lead again.

Cape Fear was paced in scoring by a pair of freshman, AJ Thompson and Jikari Johnson who poured in 14 points a piece. Another duo of freshman came up big for CFCC as Jakob Moore and Jalen McAfee-Marion recorded 11 points each.

"It was a total team effort," said second year head coach Mark Lane. "I was very impressed with how the freshman stepped up in their first collegiate game. We still have a ton of room to grow but are excited moving forward."

The Sea Devils are back in action Wednesday, February 10th as they travel to Spartanburg, SC for a tilt with the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College. Tip-off is set for 6:30pm.
