Cape Fear Mourns Loss of Former Student Athlete

Former Cape Fear Community College women's basketball player Carly Baron was tragically killed Halloween night in Wilmington, NC. Baron was a member of the 2017-18 Sea Devil women's basketball team.

"Carly had a heart of gold, an infectious personality, and bright future ahead of her," commented Sea Devil Athletic Director Ryan Mantlo. "In her short time with us, Carly made a lasting impression on all that were lucky enough to spend time with her. Our deepest condoluncies go out to her family and many friends."

"Carly was the best teammate anyone could have," said CFCC Head Women's Basketball Coach Lori Drake. "Our hearts hurt deep but we know she watching over all of us now."

The Department of Athletics announced Wednesday that they will be retiring Baron's number 24. "Carly will always be on our team and she will always be wearing her number," stated Mantlo.
