Women's Basketball Loses Close Game

Americus, Georgia - Cape Fear women's basketball lost a close game to South Georgia Technical College, 68-60, Friday night.

Freshman center Andreal Bass led the Sea Devils with 13 points and eight rebounds. For South Georgia Tech, Houlfat Mahouchiza and Bigue Sarr each scored 12 points.

It was tightly contested throughout the game, with South Georgia Tech leading 22-17 at the end of the first quarter, and 37-30 at halftime. The Sea Devils kept it close in the second half, but never outscored South Georgia Tech in either quarter, and the Jets were able to hold on for the win.

Madison Ervin also contributed for the Sea Devils, totaling 12 points and five rebounds. Dynasty Heyward, meanwhile, finished with 10 points.

While Cape Fear came up short, it was a strong effort playing against a Division I opponent.

"We came into a tough classic being the only NJCAA DII Team here and we competed in game one," said head coach Lori Drake. "I was proud of how our ladies battled, but we have to capitalize on the details in big games such as this one."

The Sea Devils move to 9-3 on the season.

Friday's game was the first of three straight for Cape Fear to end 2017. They face off next against Georgia Highlands on Saturday, December 30th.
