Sea Devils Prepare for NJCAA Championships

After an undefeated regular season and finishing as Regional and District Champions, the Sea Devils Women's Soccer team travels to Wichita, Kansas for the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament. This opportunity to represent Cape Fear on a National scale for only the second time in Athletic Department history presents a great opportunity for the team to continue to improve and build their program to perform at a higher level than they have been able to achieve in previous years.

"This is a great experience for the girls," remarks Head Women's Soccer Coach Dave Martin. "They have made the most out of a tough playing year working around COVID-19 and all the obstacles associated with it. I'm looking forward to seeing the competition and so are the players."

The Sea Devils finished their regular season play with 10 wins and 1 tie. They averaged 18 shots per game with 5 total shutouts this season to match. Sophomore Kristarae Poell leads the team in goal scoring while Freshman Natalie Haldeman leads the charge in assists for the Sea Devils. Starting goalkeeper Catherine Jupena (Fr.) holds down the fort on defense with an 81% save percentage in regular-season play.

"It's been a great season - hope to make some more memories in Kansas," says Coach Martin.

The Sea Devils arrived in Kansas as the 12th seed in their bracket. They will take on the Number 1 seed, the Heartland Hawks of Normal, Illinois, this afternoon at 12PM Eastern Standard Time at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita.

Following Monday's game, the Sea Devils will take on the South Suburban Bulldogs on Tuesday, November 16th, at 12PM EST. All Sea Devils Women's Soccer matches will be LiveStreamed on the NJCAA Network at njcaa.org/network. The official Sea Devils Athletics Twitter account (@goseadevils) will also be Live Tweeting match updates from Wichita.
