Nate Torbett played men's soccer from 2014-2015. Before arriving at Cape Fear, Torbett played at Winthrop University where he redshirted. He had two years left of eligibility and was ready to get to work with the Sea Devils. During his first year with Cape Fear he started 19 games, scored two goals and had one assist. In his sophomore season he started every game. This set a school record for games played and games started during his career at Cape Fear.

After graduating from CFCC in 2016, he decided to take his talents to Coomera, Queensland where he played professional soccer for the Coomera Colts Soccer Club. During his two years with the club he helped guide them to runners up for the 2017 BLK Cup, helped the club fight off relegation in the 2017 season to remain in the Premier League, and in 2018 season helped the club to a 5th place finish in the league. All of this helped him win the award of Most Improved player for the 2017 season.

Torbett currently resides in Wilmington, NC where he is working on his degree in communications through East Carolina University's distant education program. He hopes to get involved with coaching upon finishing his degree. He still stays involved with teammates and coaches from his days as a Sea Devil.

When asked how his time at CFCC has helped with his current career and life choices he said "CFCC helped me grow a lot. When I transferred from a NCAA Division I soccer program to a community college program, I really did not know what to expect. I found that CFCC was the perfect fit for me. I worked hard, became more of a leader, developed more as a student and just grew as a person. My joy for soccer at the time was kind of gone and Caper Fear helped me find that joy again".

What was your most memorable moment looking back at your time at Cape Fear?
I have some great memories from my two seasons and made lifelong friends that I am still in contact with on a regular basis. My last game for CFCC was a very memorable one. It was very bittersweet. We lost the game in the quarter finals of the playoffs having two red carded players. It completed my streak of starting in every game possible in 2 seasons. With 5-10 minutes left in the game Coach Libert subbed in a player on our team that did not get to play in a game all season. This player happened to be my lifelong friend and is pretty much a brother to me. Getting to be on the soccer field with him and handing off the captain's band to him is something I will never forget.

If you could tell an incoming freshman one thing what would it be?
Take advantage and make the most of your time at CFCC. The time goes by so fast. Its an amazing city to live in and an amazing school to be at. Everyone at CFCC just wants the best for you and will do whatever they can to help you be successful. Enjoy the time while you have it because it will fly by.

What is your biggest accomplishment after leaving Cape Fear? (personal or professional)
Signing to play pro in Australia.
