WILMINGTON, NC - For the fifth straight year, Cape Fear Community College student-athletes maintained a higher grade point average than the CFCC student body, while a total of 54 Sea Devils earned a GPA of at least a 3.0 or higher for the 2010-11 fall & spring terms.

Following the 2011 spring semester, and after tracking the 10th consecutive semester(5 Years) of grade point averages amongst the college transfer student body, the Sea Devil student-athletes earned higher GPA’s each semester than their counterparts.

The 2010-11 women's volleyball posted the highest team GPA for the year, and was recognized as a NJCAA All-Academic Team with a GPA over the 3.00 threshold for second time, while the men's golf, women's soccer, cheerleading, men's soccer and basketball ranked respectively. Along with team accolades, Rebecca Morris (Women’s Soccer) was awarded for Exemplary Academic Achievement with a 3.75 cumulative GPA.

Sea Devil athletics also celebrated the graduation and/or transfer of over 35 student-athletes(sophomores)this academic year, which in turn pursued higher institutions of learning and competition.

"Our student-athletes ability to balance academics and athletics is impressive, and we look to improve on those marks," stated Director of Athletics Robert McGee.

"They are to be congratulated for such a strong performance over the 5 year span. Our coaching staff and the CFCC Faculty and Staff, all deserve the recognition as well – it’s a team effort.”

McGee added, "The education of our student-athletes is our primary mission, and we are committed to building a program that excels in academics, athletics and supports our very own community. Academics are a priority here at CFCC, and we will continue to pursue academic excellence while representing the College on the court and field of play.”
